Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Spectre of War was co-produced by Nicaragua, Cuba and Mexico. In disturbing detail, the film probes the effect that the Nicaraguan war had on its youth. Like their European counterparts in World War I, these young men and women, bursting with ambition and ideals, are ground down by incessant warfare. Particular attention is paid to aspiring dancer Elmer Macfields, who is sucked into the vortex of senseless slaughter. Spectre of War was directed and co-written by Ramiro Lacayo-Deshon, a former Nicaraguan exile who returned to carry on the struggle against the Somoza regime.
