Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

Take a trip back in time to experience two of the hottest jazz performers of the era with this double feature concert performance showcasing Sonny Criss and the L.A. All-Stars and the Les McCann Trio. In the first performance, alto-saxophonist Criss leads pianist Hampton Hawes, bassists Leroy Vinnegar and Bobby Thompson, vocalist Joe Turner, trumpeter Sweets Edison, and saxophonist Teddy Edwards in a toe-tapping set that includes such gems as "Memory Lane Blues" and "Feeling Happy". The second set, captured live at Shelly's Manne Hole Club and featuring McCann performing alongside bassist Jimmy Rowser and drummer Donald Dean, offers such memorable hits as the marriage minded "With These Hands" and the rousing protest anthem "Compared to What".
