Synopsis by Perry Seibert
The drama Something Necessary, directed by Judy Kibinge, tells a tale set in her home country of Kenya. Set just after elections held in that country in 2007, the movie opens with Anne (Susan Wanjiru) in the hospital after a violent attack on her home resulted in her husband's death and serious injuries to her and her son. As the country is still gripped in conflict between various ethnicities, she attempts to rebuild her family's farm. In addition to threats of violence, she must contend with ineffective political officials as well as a simmering feud with her now former brother-in-law. Something Necessary screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.
