Synopsis by Mark Deming
Reveling in a sublimely dark and sweaty ambience, Soft Cell (featuring Marc Almond on vocals and Dave Ball on keyboards) offered a sound a bit more subversive than that of the other synth-pop acts that would emerge in the 1980s, and they used the video medium to amplify the tone of their records. Soft Cell's Non-stop Exotic Video Show includes performances of the songs "Bedsitter," "Entertain Me," "Memorabilia," "Secret Life," "Sex Dwarf," and their smash hit cover of "Tainted Love."
