Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Edwin Arden stars as British member of Parliament Simon de Gex, known as "Simon the Jester" because of his biting, cynical wit. But Simon finds nothing to laugh at when his doctor informs him that he hasn't much longer to live. Quitting his political post, Simon journeys out into the world, trying to find some meaning in what is left of his life. He becomes involved in a grotesque murder case involving a vengeful dwarf, witnesses a delicate operation, and, finally, falls in love a professional animal trainer called The Cat Queen (Irene Warfield). All of the seemingly unrelated subplots converge in the final reel in a most unusual and unexpected fashion. If the film version of Simon the Jester seemed surreal and confusing, the original novel by William J. Locke was even more inscrutable.
