Harry T. Morey joined the ever-growing ranks of film actors essaying dual roles in Vitagraph's Silent Strength. With the help of some reasonably convincing trick photography, Morey was cast as twin cousins, both heirs to a valuable gold mine. One of the cousins is a swindler, who tricks the other cousin's fiancee (Betty Blythe) into marrying him. The girl can't understand why her "sweetheart" has suddenly turned into such a cad, but she doesn't learn the truth until the film's excessively melodramatic climax. Impressed by the excellent location photography in the final scenes, audiences were willing to forgive the film's glaring plot deficiencies.
