synopsis
Large numbers of actors and would-be performers in the San Francisco area were eager to audition for a man, apparently a librarian, who said he was trying to raise money to do a filmed remake of the Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein musical Show Boat. These auditions were filmed, lightly edited, and shown on San Francisco television. The televised film's depiction of tap-dancing nuns, nudists and turtles brought endless mirth. Afterward, Director Richard Schmidt acquired the footage and filmed additional footage, including interviews with the performers, to make this experimental comedy.
