Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Fernand, a member of the Paris underworld (Charles DeRoche), is called off to fight in the Great War and when he is reported dead, his sweetheart, Claire (Pola Negri), decides to leave her shady life behind. She becomes a member of society and marries Raoul Gramont (Huntley Gordon), the prefect of police. But she misses her old life and occasionally makes her way down to her old haunts. During one of her visits, she finds Fernand, still very much alive. She falls in love with him all over again and tells him where she lives. He shows up, only to steal her jewels, and she finally sees him for the petty crook he really is. Meanwhile, Gramont's secretary, Georges du Croy (Adolphe Menjou) not only wants her jewels, he wants to blackmail her because he knows her past. During a fight, du Croy shoots Fernand dead. Claire confesses to Gramont about her past, but he forgives her.
