Chapter seven reveals the carnival's vengeance to be a mere ruse and the performers instead confront Gardner (Roy D'Arcy), The Eagle's chief henchman. But despite threats from the strong man (Ivan Linow), he refuses to reveal the identity of his boss. Masquerading as Gardner, Henry, the ventriloquist (James Bradbury, Jr., gains entrance to the gang's headquarters but the ploy backfires and both Henry and Craig (John Wayne) are captured. They manage to escape, however, but their car is forced off the road in the ensuing chase.
