Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
This is Finland's first animated feature and that might explain its simple technical level: the figures are paper cut-outs with disjointed movements and the backgrounds are painted in flat watercolors. Set in the 1800s and divided into three related folktales, a family of orphaned brothers embark on a series of real or imagined adventures. The brothers work on their farm but skip school and play other pranks that are meant to stave off responsibility as much as possible. In one episode, there is a make-believe segment with a monster who frightens a young maiden in a forest. In another, a brother has a nightmare about a trip to the moon from where he sees the earth explode.
