Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
This "shockumentary" gross-out fest attempts to exploit the success of the similarly unenchanting (but far better made) 1961 film, Mondo Cane. Interspersed with images intended to disgust or arouse are long segments about victims of the Hiroshima bombing, the Vietnam War, and inhabitants of a leper colony. The film includes explicit scenes of (among other things) a man undergoing sterilization; heart surgery; a dog being killed, skinned, cooked and eaten; and a man pouring his own urine over his head. What the potato-sack race and tug-of-war (which are also shown) have to do with these is not at all clear. Even if viewers actually want to see the gross-out parts, there is so much tame filler that they are likely to find this film disappointing.
