Self-indulgent Johnny LaRue (John Candy) runs for city council, with news anchor Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy) handling the campaign. Johnny's opponents include Jack Brown (Dave Thomas) and Shirley McLennan Black (Catherine O'Hara), both of whom participate in a spirited (if confusing) debate. TV show promos this evening include "The Silly Bastard," with Dave Thomas in the title role and "Tom Bosley" (Candy) as Ben Franklin, who wonders what happened to Richie and Joanie; and the hilarious sitcom "One Is Enough," starring Barbie Somers (O'Hara) -- and no one else.
