Synopsis by Rovi

The first episode of SCTV may well be the cheapest in the batch, but it's also one of the funniest. After Dave Thomas' commercial for the Lasermatic Flash Camera ("turns night to day!"), up comes "Sunrise Semester," with the larcenous Moe Green (Harold Ramis) providing tips on creative bookkeeping. Subsequent highlights of the broadcast day are the first episode of "The Johnny LaRue Exercise Show" (featuring John Candy); the initial "SCTV AM News Today," with Earl Camembert (Eugene Levy) making do with piddly "human interest" items while Floyd Robertson (Joe Flaherty) hogs all the plum news stories; "The Evelyn Wood Speed Talking School," featuring the mile-a-minute mouth of Catherine O'Hara; and "Masterpiece Theater: The Girls of Vienna," spotlighting Sigmund Freud's wife Betty (O'Hara again). All this, plus Joni Newton Buffy (Andrea Martin), promos for the back-to-back TV hits "Unnecessary Surgeon" and "Malpractrice Lawyer," and a depressing public service announcement asking your help to stop depressing public service announcements.
