Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A homeschooled teen longs to escape from the reach of her perky yet overprotective mother in this independent comedy drama starring Ashley Rickards, Haley Joel Osment, and Diedrich Bader. Bethany Pruitt (Rickards) may be a valedictorian, but that distinction is somewhat mitigated by the fact that she was homeschooled by her mother June (Anna Gunn). Meanwhile, when Bethany's not looking after her younger brother Shayne (Martin Spanjers), she's using her scrapbook to restyle forbidden fashions featured in the stylish 'zines sent by her gay, absentee father Dale (Bader). When June insists Bethany enrolls in an online university for an accounting degree, the sheltered teen grudgingly relents. The situation in the house turns critical, however, when Bethany begins a clandestine relationship with her neighbor Hector (Rene Rosado) prompting an infuriated June to destroy her daughter's beloved scrapbook. Subsequently fleeing to her father's house via bus, the frustrated teen quickly grows weary of his alcoholic outburst, but finds solace in the company of his younger boyfriend Chip (Osment). Things start to look up for Bethany when she lands a job at a popular retail outlet, even though her home schooling makes it difficult to relate to her selfish, small-minded co-workers. Meanwhile, upon learning about the Fashion Art Technology Institute, the directionless teen begins to feel like she's finally found her true calling.
