Synopsis by Mark Deming

Filmmaker Francesco Jodice creates a striking portrait of a unique city in this short documentary. The capitol city of Brazil, Sao Paulo is one of the most populous communities in the Southern hemisphere, with a population of eighteen million. Sao Paulo is also a place where wealth and poverty often exist side by side -- street crime and kidnapping are common enough that the rich often use helicopters to get around town rather than risk limousines or taxis. For most people in Sao Paulo, everyday life is full of challenges, and getting by requires a creative mind and a sense of adventure. Sao Paulo Citytellers is a powerful profile of the beauty and the danger of one of South America's greatest cities. Sao Paulo Citytellers was screened in competition at the 2007 Rotterdam International Film Festival.
