Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Jack Pickford plays Sandy, a young Irishman who stows away on a ship headed for America. En route, he meets Ruth Nelson (Louise Huff), the daughter of a Kentucky couple. Falling in love with Ruth, he follows her to the Blue Grass state, where he is taken under the wing of a kindly judge. Meanwhile, Ruth's brother, an irresponsible drunkard, gets mixed up with a scheme to fix an important horse race. In the process, the brother ends up shooting the judge, but the blame falls upon an innocent jockey. Not wishing to expose the brother's perfidy for Ruth's sake, Sandy helps the jockey escape the Law, only to end up the "guest of honor" at a lynching party. He is saved by the brother's last-minute confession, which also enables Sandy and Ruth to marry in the final scene. Sandy was based on a story by Alice Hegan Rice, a specialist in heavily plotted "Americana."
