Synopsis by Cammila Collar
In this anime series is based on Akira Kurosawa's 1954 film The Seven Samurai, the inhabitants of a rice village called Kanna are seasonally pillaged by huge robots known as Bandits. The mechanical beasts steal greater portions of the harvest with each visit, and have actually begun taking away women and children in addition to the villagers' already sparse stockpiles of rice. The citizens barely have enough harvest left to subsist on, let alone sell, and so the village elders form a plan to hire samurai to defeat the Bandits. They will only be able to pay the men in rice, and so the warriors who take the job will have to be either exceptionally noble, or very desperate. What follows is a tale of corruption and redemption set in a uniquely styled world that seamlessly blends elements of rustic feudal Japan with futuristic mechanization.
