Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Produced by GMTV, Ealing Animations, Sony Wonder, and Sunbow Entertainment, the half-hour cartoon series Salty's Lighthouse was all about a curious six-year-old youngster who lived next door to the Boats-a-Float Lighthouse in an unnamed coastal town. In each episode, Salty used his imagination to commiserate with human and animal friends alike, learning all sorts of life lessons along the way. Salty's adventures were mirrored by the activities of a group of humanized tugboats, bearing such names as Blue Nose the Naval Boat and Grampus. The series was developed by the Bank Street College of Education, the same folks who'd guided the destinies of the classic Saturday-morning series Schoolhouse Rock, while Ellen Schechter served as education advisor. Boasting two separate 15-minute stories per episode (of which there were 26 in all), Salty's Lighthouse joined The Learning Channel's cable-TV schedule in the fall of 1998.
