Set in an Austin, Texas coffee and tobacco shop, slackers wander dazedly through their aimless lives bitching about their personal pain and suffering. Though essentially a series of interconnected vignettes, much of the story centers on Ebb, an illustrator who is falling apart after his girl friend dumped him. To ease his pain, he calls area radio talk-show host Dr. Feelgood. While talking on the air he learns that his best friend is a back stabber. Other stories involving a bisexual love triangle and a gay couple's attempt to cope when one develops full-blown AIDS are also included.
