Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Acerbic L.A. radio sports-show host Jim Rome was invited to leave the ESPN2 cable network back in 1992 after a near-brawl involving himself and athlete Jim "Chris" Everett. Thus, when Rome resurfaced 11 years later on the network's sister outlet ESPN in his own weekly talk fest, it was deemed necessary to issue assurances that the star was not as a big a you-know-what as he'd been more than a decade earlier. Be that as it may, Rome Is Burning was vintage Jim Rome, with the mustachioed, hyperbolic emcee playing provocateur and gadfly at every possible opportunity. The series debuted May 6, 2003.
