Dana Sterling leads the 15th Squadron on a reconnaissance mission into the fallen Robotech Masters flagship, but they are unaware that the Robotech Masters are manipulating them in their own way from behind the scenes. The Masters force the members of the 15th to split up and guide them along specific paths in order to study the humans and their reactions. In the course of their mission, Dana, Louie Nichols, and Bowie Grant find themselves surrounded by strange, haunting music. When they stumble onto a room containing spare parts for humanoids, Bowie finds himself accidentally transported into a chamber where he meets the alien musician: a beautiful young woman. Meanwhile, the command center in Monument City finds that their forces are meeting extremely heavy resistance, and the 15th Squadron is long overdue for their return. Cut off from radio contact, they begin to worry that the mission is a failure and contemplate withdrawing.
