This miniscule silent western was one of six Bob Reeves oaters produced by poverty row entrepreneur Morris R. Schlank and directed by veteran serial ace J.P. McGowan. Decidedly an also-ran cowboy star, Reeves appeared in scores of very low-budget westerns throughout the '20s, only to find himself way down in the cast lists after the changeover to sound. The actor continued to appear in films, Westerns and B-movies in general, well into the '50s. In Riding for Life, Reeves is falsely accused of robbing a depot, saves the heroine (Aline Goodwin) from the ubiquitous runaway carriage, and manages to bring the real robbers (including Hal Walters and Bob Fleming) to justice, all in less than five reels. Future western director Joseph Kane furnished the story and Ray Cline cranked the camera.
