Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
Journalist Randy Shilts' persistent coverage of the AIDS crisis during the early years of the epidemic was a rare occurrence in the mainstream media of the time, when denial and anti-gay sentiment permeated the airwaves and popular opinion. Shilts, who himself battled with AIDS, went on to write "And the Band Played On", one of the literary mainstays of HIV history. Reporter Zero offers a compelling look at the effect of journalism on society and the legacy of Randy Shilts, as well as offering insight into a pivotal, albeit tragic moment within the LGBT community.
