synopsis
Red Mountain was the third film produced in Hollywood between 1950 and 1951 to deal with the bloody Civil War exploits of Quantrill's Raiders. John Ireland plays the vainglorious Quantrill, whose activities, ostensibly on behalf of the Confederacy, are actually calculated to create a megalomanic empire west of the Mississippi. It is up to Brett (Alan Ladd), a Confederate captain, and Lane Waldron (Arthur Kennedy), a political neutral, to put an end to Quantrill's reign of terror. Placed in jeopardy by Brett and Waldron's plans is Waldron's fiancee Chris (Lizabeth Scott). The finale throws in every western cliché in the book, albeit most effectively.
