Synopsis by Hal Erickson

It was probably just a coincidence, but the Equitable five-reeler The Reapers was released in New York the same week as Paramount's The Sowers. The plot of The Reapers centers on Albert Jordan (John Mason), a clerk in a publishing firm. When Jordan is crippled in a motor accident, his far-from-supportive wife Rita (Clara Whipple) runs off with her lover, leaving Jordan to raise his 5-year-old daughter Edna (Joan Morgan) by himself. This proves to be a godsend when Edna turns out to be an expert housekeeper, and later when the grown-up daughter (now played by Rene Dentling) assists her father in operating a successful newsstand. Still bitter about Rita's desertion, Jordan convinces Edna that her mother is long dead, when in fact Rita is now the partner/mistress of seedy dance-hall proprietor James Shaw (Warner Oland). As luck and the plot would have it, Edna falls in love with crusading DA Frank Rollins (Pierre LaMay), who is dedicated to ridding the city of all dens of vice -- including the establishment co-owned by You-Know-Who.
