Synopsis by Ryan Shriver

Nontraditional father Eddie Harris (John Lynch) takes great pride in his approach to parenting, which stresses openness and honesty with his children. His wife, Jeanie (Geraldine Somerville), agrees for the most part, but is just as often frustrated by his frequent bluntness. Eddie's parenting style is put to the test after his daughter, Katie (Lauren Cook), catches her parents making love -- a situation that prompts some intimate discussion to help the youngster understand what she just witnessed. Katie then becomes a schoolyard sage in regards to sexual knowledge, which draws the attention of school staff. After a couple of embarrassing incidents -- including the revelation of a bizarre bath time ritual -- Eddie is subjected to an abuse investigation that temporarily forces him to leave the house while he tries to prove his innocence to the state. Directed by Jim Doyle, Re-Inventing Eddie was selected for competition at the 2002 Montreal World Film Festival.
