Ramble in Erin was produced and narrated by Pat Stanton, a commentator for the Voice of America and one of the world's foremost experts in all things Irish. The title of this 80-minute documentary was lifted from Stanton's weekly radio program. In rambling, stream-of-consciousness fashion, Stanton guides the audience on a 2,800 mile tour of the Auld Sod. Not markedly different from other travelogues on the market in 1951, Ramble in Erin is buoyed by Stanton's fascinating offscreen commentary. One of the better scenes takes place in Miriam Square, the home of novelist James Joyce.
