Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The title of this Greek musical drama translates as The Girl Refugee. Popular Greek recording artist Sophia Vebo heads the cast as Sophia, the wife of wealthy farmer Lukas (Manos Philippines). Well known throughout the land for his kind treatment of refugee farm workers, Lukas goes far beyond kindness in his attentions towards saucy refugee girl Rita (Toula Anzes). Coming to his senses when he finds out that Rita has only been stringing him along, Lukas returns to the ever-patient, ever-faithful Sophia, cueing the last of the film's musical numbers. The American release of Prosfygopoula was held up for a while until the censors had trimmed a few of the steamier romantic passages.
