Synopsis by Rob Ferrier

Each episode of Profile of a Writer explores the life and work of a prominent writer. Not just a dry recitation of fact, each episode is an exploration of the environment and people that shaped a writer's life and work. From interviews with family and friends, to glimpses of the artist at work, no stone is left unturned. In this particular episode, the life and work of Toni Morrison is discussed. Beyond a brilliant novelist, Morrison is an important chronicler of the black experience in America. Here, she discusses her work, including her controversial novel Beloved, in which a mother kills her daughter to protect her from the condition of slavery.
