Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Produced by the Wharton Brothers, Prince of India was released Stateside by the Eclectic division of Pathe Pictures. Running four reels, the film is a fast-paced, tongue-in-cheek adventure yarn, with William Riley Hatch heading the cast as a devil-may-care newspaper reporter. The plot is motivated by the search for a rare and precious gem, "borrowed" from its temple shrine by a fun-loving Indian prince at the behest of a silken seductress. The film moves quickly to a pulse-pounding climax aboard a runaway trolley car. The "official" running time of The Prince of India fluctuated depending upon the projectionist; when the film was run on a two-a-day basis at the Hammerstein Theater in New York, it was undoubtedly screened at a much faster speed than usual.
