This series of three films offers profiles of all the American presidents beginning with George Washington and ending with George Bush Sr. In each film, a group of presidents is discussed with assessments of their character, the events affected their election, a glimpse into their family life, and the social and political forces that shaped them and influenced their executive decision-making. Portraits of American Presidents: Presidents of a New Nation - 1789-1829 follows the first six presidents who helped to direct the young nation in its earliest days -- George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, and John Quincy Adams.
