Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Polly Hopkins (Mildred Harris) belongs to a family of squatters living in Silent City. The poor squatters are constantly at odds with the wealthy "hilltoppers," but Polly's grandmother has gone against popular opinion by teaching Polly to love everybody. Polly keeps the faith, even when her sister's husband is railroaded into jail. Robert Robertson (Emory Johnson), one of the hilltoppers, does not have the condescending, narrow-minded attitude of those around him and he falls in love with Polly. He proposes to her, but their marriage is delayed when Robert's sister, Evelyn (Charlotte Burns), marries a man who tries to blackmail her. Polly tries to help the young woman, but only brings suspicion on herself. Evelyn's husband is killed, and Polly's spirit is broken when her father is sent to prison and her kid brother (Mickey Moore) is locked up in an orphanage. Then her grandmother dies. Polly becomes vengeful and has Evelyn kidnapped. Before the young woman can be harmed, Polly comes around again and lets her go. Evelyn clears Polly's name, and she and Robert finally marry.
