Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Originally telecast by Canada's CBC beginning January 2, 2004, the animated children's show Pinky Dinky Doo was based on a series of bedtime-story books by Jim Jinkins, of Doug fame. Using a cute combination of flash animation and photo collages, the series' 11-minute segments featured the titular Pinky, a pink-haired seven-year-old girl with a vivid imagination. Living in the great big city with her ultra-inquisitive baby brother, Tyler, and household pet, Mr. Guinea Pig, Pinky solved problems and learned new words and concepts by conjuring up all sorts of imaginary adventures, featuring such esoterica as salami shoes and rude alligators. The end of each segment was given over to interactive games, in which Pinky invited the kids at home to help her answer the questions raised in the episode at hand. Dedicated to "enhancing early literacy," Pinky Dinky Doo was by its very nature more suited for youngsters than adults, though there were a few subtle cultural references designed to entertain the mommies and daddies who happened to tune in. Co-produced by the Sesame Workshop and Cartoon Pizza Inc., Pinky Dinky Doo began its U.S. run on the Noggin digital-cable network on April 10, 2006.
