Synopsis by Bhob Stewart

Also known as Pick a Card, this Israeli comedy-drama, set in a Tel Aviv slum, focuses on garage electrician David (Zvika Hadar), from the northern Israel capital of Afula, who dreams of becoming a magician. His girlfriend Batya (Esti Zackheim), who works at the local supermarket, would prefer to see David in a more routine and mundane way of life. When he forms an alliance with Romanian magician Shimon (Aryeh Moskuna), Batya develops a friendship with her neighbor Vickie (Orly Perl). Selected as the opening night film at the New York Israel Film Festival, Afula Express won six Israeli Academy Awards, including "Best Picture."
