The Danish docudrama The Wedding of Palt was filmed entirely on location in the Angmagssalik district of Greenland. The film was the brainchild of Dr. Knud Rasmussen, a prominent Scandanavian explorer and naturalist of the period. The slender storyline concentrates on the rivalry between two Eskimoes over the affections of the same girl. Palo wins the girl's hand, but only after a fierce mano y mano battle with the other suitor. For the most part, the story takes a back seat to a series of fascinating glimpses of Eskimo life, ranging from hunting expeditions to the climactic wedding ceremony. Filmed in 1935, Wedding of Palo earned unequivocal praise when it released in the U.S. two years later.
