In revealing right off that its heroine is a prostitute -- and practices her craft because she likes the finer things in life -- this drama was surprisingly frank for its puritanical era. Belle (Rhea Mitchell) is working a dance hall when Maurice Norton (William Stowell) comes in. The young man, who was disowned by his rich father (Clarence Burton), has just gotten out of jail and doesn't even have an overcoat to protect him from the cold. Belle offers him money for one, but he turns her down. He is impressed by her generosity and she by his nobility, so they move in together. He finds employment as a laborer and works his way up to foreman. She gives up her dance hall life to take care of their home. Norton's father finally tracks him down and offers to take him back, but he refuses to leave Belle. Belle, however, doesn't want to stand in his way, so she pretends to be anxious to get back to her old life. Norton doesn't believe her for a second and insists that he will marry her in the morning. The disgusted father leaves the contented couple to their own devices.
