Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Director Lewis Milestone, himself a Russian expatriate, was one of the producers of this propaganda picture on behalf of Russian War Relief. Heavily reliant upon Soviet newsreel footage, the film eloquently states its case for an alliance between the US and the USSR against their common Nazi enemy. Outside of the battle scenes, the most fascinating aspect of the film is its depiction of Soviet womanhood, at home, at work, and on the front lines. Our Russian Front was originally released with a prologue spoken by diplomat W. Averell Harriman, who'd recently delivered a well-publicized report on the state of the Soviet Union to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The film is narrated by Walter Huston, who the following year starred in the pro-Russian docudrama Mission to Moscow.
