Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

After decades of trying to conceal her true identity as a hermaphrodite, filmmaker Phoebe Hart embarks on an incredible journey of self discovery in which she finally learns to accept and lover herself unconditionally. For Phoebe, the first sign that she was not like other girls came when she hit puberty. Informed that she would never menstruate and was incapable of bearing children, she struggled to comprehend why until, at the age of 17, her mother finally revealed the truth about Phoebe's anomalous medical condition. Though Phoebe would next have her undescended testicles removed via an invasive surgery, the trauma of that procedure and the pain of recovery became an enormous factor in the shaping of her personality. Now, with the support of her partner James, and her sister Bonnie by her side, Phoebe sets out on a road trip across Australia to seek out other intersex individuals and interview them about their experiences. But the one individual who Phoebe needs to hear from most is also the one who refuses to have anything to do with the documentary -- her mother. Now, if Phoebe can just convince her mother to talk openly and honestly about the effects of having an intersex daughter had on their family, perhaps the healing process can finally begin, and Phoebe will finally realize the dream of becoming a mother by adopting a child that she and James can raise together.
