Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This film, hosted by Bud Greenspan, tells the story of black American athlete Jesse Owens, whose personal victories in track at the 1936 Olympics electrified the world. Remarkable as his achievements were, they became even more important as a symbol. Hitler had meant to show the world the superiority of the so-called "master race," and the triumphs of Owens were a personal humiliation for the führer and proof of the fallacy of his propaganda. The film features archival film footage of the 1936 Olympics, as well as an interview with Owens.
