Synopsis by Nicole Gagne
Augusto Valle (Renato Pozzetto), a successful young industrialist, loves nature and decides not to sell the garden near his factory, even though the transaction would result in a huge profit for him. He weds Palmira (Angelica Ippolito) who works in his factory, and the two have a child despite the infant's uncertain legitimacy. Scheming to control her husband's fortune, Palmira has affairs with both the mayor and the judge to have Augusto committed to a mental institution. While there, he falls in love with Serafina Vitali (Dalila Di Lazzaro), a young woman who was also put away for being an inconvenience -- in her case, for opposing her father, a weapons manufacturer. Augusto and Serafina decide to stay together, and they renounce all their rights and retire to the countryside.
