Synopsis

"Kids and Chemicals" explores likely links between environmental toxins and asthma, cancer and learning disabilities in children. "The more investigators look," says host Bill Moyers, "the more they're finding traces of these chemicals everywhere." In a Nevada town, for instance, scientists are trying to find causes for a "cluster" of childhood leukemia. Parents living near a Missouri lead smelter are concerned about high lead levels in their children. Another danger: Mom herself. As nursing mother Sandra Steingraber, a Cornell biologist, puts it: "No woman has uncontaminated breast milk on this planet."
