Ostensibly a dramatic account of a love triangle, this Vietnamese drama actually offers a subtle metaphor for the fragile state of the culture in 1990s as it tautly teeters between rural traditions and contemporary urban values. It is set in a small rural village. There 17-year-old Nham, the only surviving male in his family, works the community rice paddy to support his mother and sister-in-law Ngu, who frequently works there too. Romantic sparks fly between Nham and Ngu, but they are nearly quenched when sophisticated, fashionable Quyen arrives from the big city to see her old home village again. Nham and Quhyen are quite attracted to each other. Poor Ngu is barely able to conceal her jealousy.
