synopsis
Famed Soviet musician Nikolai Ivanovich Apalanov (Elya Baskin) arrives in Cicely for his annual chess match with friendly adversary Maurice (Barry Corbin). Chris (John Corbett) tries to help Ed (Darren E. Burrows) win the heart of a local lass (Dana Andersen) with provocative "word pictures" -- about motorcycles. And Holling (Barry Corbin) is plagued by peculiarly horrible nightmares. Somehow, all of this is interwoven with the words -- and philosophies -- of Tolstoy's War and Peace. William J. White makes his first appearance as Dave the Cook; and listen for a rare Moonlighting moment in which Joel (Rob Morrow) breaks down the "fourth wall."
