Synopsis by Mark Deming

Though both of his parents are alive, when he was just two weeks old Johannes was sent to live in an orphanage, where he lives to this day. The reason? Both of the boy's parents were institutionalized with mental illness (as they remain to this day), and were deemed unfit to care for their child. Despite this, Johannes has grown into an intelligent and thoughtful young man, but as he reaches the age of sixteen, he sometimes finds it difficult to talk about his parents with his friends and classmates -- while he's not ashamed of his family, he's also aware his is a situation most people would not understand. Filmmaker Aage Rais-Nordentoft presents a moving portrait of Johannes in the documentary Nobody Calls My Parents Losers, which features interviews with the young man as well as his mother and father. Nobody Calls My Parents Losers received its North American premiere at the 2007 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival.
