Synopsis by Janiss Garza

Tom Silverton (William Courtenay) comes to the small town of Marlow to drink away his dark past. In spite of parental opposition, Ruth Blake (Lucille Lee Stewart) sets out to reform him. Her efforts are undermined by the interference of a jealous half-wit, Buddy Bryson (William Lytell), who tells her father, Abner (Frank Currier), that Tom has been in their house. Ruth denies it, but when Abner finds out the truth, he throws her out of the house. Both Tom and Ruth wind up in a nearby town, where he explains that he has been falsely accused of a murder. A forest fire breaks out near Marlow, and through the help of Tom and Ruth, its inhabitants are saved. It turns out that the killer confessed to the crime just before his own death, so Tom is now a free man. This story was filmed again in 1922, starring Warner Baxter and Colleen Moore.
