The inspirational tale of one man's struggle to survive is told in captivating detail as veteran reporter Tom Brokow and the NBC News crew speaks with hiker Aron Ralston about the events that unfolded over six days as Ralston lay trapped at the bottom of a Utah canyon. His arm stuck beneath an 800 pound boulder and his chances for survival slimming with each passing day, Ralston documented his ordeal on a handheld video camera for six long days before determining that the only one way to escape the clutches of death was to cut off his dead arm. As his mother lead a frantic search to locate her missing son on the surface some 100 feet above, Ralston endured to survive with a little help from his trusty pocket knife and an unimaginable blast of sheer will power. In this documentary, Ralston and Brokow return to the scene of the accident to recount just what happened over those six long days, and explore how the instinctive struggle to survive can push man to achieve incredible feats.
