Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

The second filming of Henrik Scharling's classic Danish Christmas story about three students' holiday adventures in the quaint vicarage of Nøddebo is basically a gentle romance generously sprinkled with rustic comic relief. The students fall for the vicar's pretty daughters but face competition from more worldly guests. This 1974 color version was created to replace and update the antiquated original from 1934 but never quite succeeded in doing so. The story thoroughly belongs to a bygone era, and such legendary Danish performers as Johannes Meyer (the original vicar) and Hans Kurt (the youngest student) are sorely missed. During holiday seasons, the film versions of Nøddebo Præstegård face added competition from a much-beloved stage version as well.
