Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Der Geheiminsvolle Spiegel was the original title of this German melodrama. Fritz Rasp, one of filmdom's foremost purveyors of repellant types, is cast as a cad from the city who takes charge of a castle in the country. It doesn't take long for Rasp to establish himself as a louse, and soon the entire countryside is hoping for his imminent demise. It so happens that, hanging on the wall of his baronial estate is a magic mirror which allows its owner to peek into the future. Rasp gazes into the mirror and sees himself being strangled to death -- and spends the rest of the picture in a vain effort to prevent this prophecy from coming true. The basic premise of The Mystic Mirror was included in the omnibus British horror film Dead of Night.
