Synopsis by Alice Duncan
This program, Mutual of Omaha's Spirit of Adventure: Whales & Do, explores the complex behavior of these endangered species and considers the perils and conditions that have put their lives in jeopardy. An inspiring close-up look at humpback whales in the icy waters off Alaska is included. Marine investigator Cynthia D'Vincentis examines the intricate feeding habits of whales and the mysterious "songs" they use to communicate. The interesting lives and enigmatic ways of dolphins are also traced, and scientist Diana Reese is shown using underwater music to attract and interact with them. Serious threats to dolphins' survival, such as indiscriminate killing by much of the world's commercial tuna fishing industry and unexplained disease, are also examined.
