Synopsis by Alice Day
Oscar Peterson has won four Grammys and was voted best jazz pianist of the year by Down Beat for 12 years. He has worked with most of the jazz greats, including Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, and Duke Ellington. At a time when women were only expected to provide vocals in the music world, Mary Lou Williams was an arranger and composer who worked with Ellington and Armstrong before starting her own group. Peterson and Williams appear in Montreux Jazz Festival, Vol. 3, performing "People," "Teach Me Tonight," "Over the Rainbow," and more.
